Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One™ Team adopts Moverio for garage tour

The reigning Formula One™ World Constructors' Champions, the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team¹, introduced Epson Moverio smart glasses to certain VIP guests for the first time in Singapore this race weekend, September 15 to 18, 2016.

As part of this experience, guests are guided around the garage where the team sets up and maintains its racing cars, enjoying a talk about the anatomy of the racecar, race day roles of engineering staff, a pit stop explained in slow motion and other interesting information. From this season the team, which is sponsored by Epson, has inspired visitors with an augmented reality (AR) show using Moverio.

The Moverio experience

As an Official Partner of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, Epson works closely with the team, leveraging its partnership to enhance the race viewing experience for its guests. The Moverio experience in the team garage will continue to be a regular feature for guests of future races.

Worn like glasses, Moverio smart glasses offer users the ability to enjoy crystal clear video entertainment, games, music, and web content, anytime and anywhere. It displays what appears as large semi-transparent images floating against the surrounding background. Through the smart glasses, the team can show information such as drivers' profiles and complex engine mechanisms using see-through images. Now VIPs can acquire information easily, even when it is noisy. And understanding has been enhanced because Moverio can display movies in addition to still images.

Continuing development

The guide controls the information viewed by visitors by using a tablet to transfer information to Moverio. All the contents shown on the Moverios were developed by MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team supported by Epson. The tours are the first in the world to adopt AR in a garage tour.

The team is planning to use Moverio in at each of the races this season. But the two organizations are not standing still; with both continuing to develop exciting products and applications aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.
